During the past couple of months I have been thinking and reading about the Mormon Pioneers. As a child growing up I remember hearing that MY ancestors were some of the immigrants who walked the plains to settle in Zion with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Their hardship and struggle has always seemed to be distant and in the past, but as I have read and discovered more about them, I am amazed by their faith and perserverence.
To walk half starved, through the snow and ice as people were dying all around. The stories of faith are inspiring.
I have been touched to read of how president Brigham Young organized a rescue team to go recover the dying imigrants who were in the Willie and Martin Handcart companies.
Tears have run down my face as I have thought of the sacrifice that others made on behalf of these poor starving saints.
I have thought of myself and the many people along the way who have opened their arms to come and rescue me.
A small handful of my rescuers are pictured on my blog today.
I have had many.
And my heart has been touched and my burdens lightened because someone cared enough to take a small piece of my load.
Today I would like to give special thanks to my cousin who I like to call 'Brother Shaw', my dear sweet sister Loo. My unwavering mother, and the people who came to my rescue yesterday.
I love you and I thank you.
